The program is an extension of Issues in Black America (IBA) Magazine
publishing positive exposure and awareness for the venerable
institutions of the Historical Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU’s)
and to assist them in their students’ recruitment, retention, and
graduation rate (See special programs: HBCU Initiative).
The
African American Church and HBCU’s subscription program is designed
to assist the students in satisfying or supplementing their financial
requirements. Through this program, a substantial amount of the
student’s financial requirements will be defrayed, and allow them, at
the completion of their college career, not to be saddled with,
obligated, or responsible for debt many years after receiving the
funding, Which, in many instances, leads to bad credit and the
psychological and damming affect associated with this type of debt.
IBA
Magazine believes in giving back. The African American Church and HBCU’s
subscription program is just one aspect of what we at IBA see as
necessary for the advancement of our communities. The education of our
youth has to be a top priority. With the African American Church and
HBCU’s subscription program we are providing one mechanism to insure
that our youth will continue to have support for their educational
endeavors. IBA Magazine has already begun the process of rebating 15%
($2.70) of the subscription cost ($18 yearly) received from each member
of church congregations that subscribes to the magazine for a yearly
subscription.
This
rebate is given directly to the church and IBA Magazine requests that
these funds be deposited in the church’s scholarship ministry. These
funds are to be used to financially assist students that attend HBCU’s
and/or other institutions of higher learning.
For
each subscription request received on-line or by mail, IBA Magazine
remits the 15% rebate back to the church in 6-8 weeks. Also, each church
member that subscribes to the magazine through this program will receive
their first edition of IBA Magazine in 6-8 weeks.
IBA
Magazine invites African American Churches and its membership to join us
in providing financial assistance to our HBCU’s and its students. Many
of the students, we contend, after graduation will return to our
community and they, themselves will contribute financially to students
seeking to attend HBCU’s or other institutions of higher learning.
